In the AAL Laboratory the activity of the larynx, tongue, and lips can be investigated obtaining both kinematic and imaging information in real time during speech processing. According to research hypotheses and objectives, these instruments can be synchronized to obtain integrated data.
The system, produced by the company Laryngograph Ltd, is a based fundamental frequency (“pitch”) extractor. It captures and plays back speech and the waveform corresponding at the larynks output.

SonixTablet is a compact ultrasound system with a 19” touch screen that can be mounted from the ceiling or wall to preserve floor space. It is a portable system with a built-in handle that makes it easy to position on any flat surface. An optional rolling case is available to protect the system and for easier transport from site to site. This unique system provides the same premium image quality as higher-end Ultrasonix models. It also provide output triggers in several dedicated channels in order to integrate the device in a system where other data source need to be acquired preserving the time synchronization.

The AG500 system is produced by Carstens Medizinelektronik is used for exploring the acoustics and the mechanics of speech, getting kinematic data on the movements outside and within the mouth, by tracking the movement of up to 9 (+3 for reference)coils within a magnetic field.

A newer model of EMA, the AG501, has been released. The system’s transmitter coils spatial distribution has been completely redesigned and shows many other improvements. It records the positions and the orientations of up to 24 HQ220-L120-B sensors with a 250 Hz operating sampling rate. Compared to the previous model, the number of transmitter coils has been increased from 6 to 9; furthermore, the coils stand above the registration volume, and the plastic cube structure which delimited it in AG500 has been eliminated.
